We often talk about investments as something financial. But one of the most important long-term investments you can make is building and maintaining a strong body.
Muscle mass is about far more than appearance. Strength makes everyday life easier, supports your skeleton and helps your body handle more. Regular strength training is also associated with better metabolic health, physical function and a lower risk of premature death.
STRENGTH MATTERS MORE WITH TIME
We gradually lose muscle mass and strength as we age if we do not challenge the body. Strength training is therefore not only about what your body can do today, but what you want it to be able to do in ten, twenty or thirty years.
A stronger body can make it easier to climb stairs, carry things, get up, maintain balance and keep doing the things you enjoy. It is capacity you build now and can benefit from for years.
MORE THAN MUSCLE
Strength training can also affect how we feel. Physical activity is linked to better mood, sleep and mental health. One small study has even shown improvements in some measures of skin elasticity and structure after regular exercise, although this is not a reason to promise cosmetic results.
You do not need to become extremely strong. You do not need to train every day. The point is to give your body a reason to maintain and build what it needs.
Muscle is not just something you build for the mirror. It is something you build for life.
